Smart Card Solutions & Printers - Review
Smart Cards
The Smart card is generally of credit card size made of PVC, but at times out of ABS. Smart card chip is programmed to carry out predefined tasks. This card systems encompass a microchip which acts as the central processing unit, has random access memory (RAM) and also data storage facility of around 10MB. It stores electronic data of about thousands of bytes Smart card costs vary greatly by type of card (memory vs. MCU), size of memory, and many other factors. Ferro-electric memories, which are the hottest in recording technology, are also used in Smart cards to record substantial amount of information all related and required for that application.
History of Smart Cards
In 1983, these cards found mass usage in french pay phones. In 1992, these cards found its use with the integration of microchips into all French debit cards. Today, this chip card technology is common in our culture. In this security-conscious world of personal identity, electronic payment & financial applications security, and reliability are paramount. The card might embed a hologram inorder to avoid fraud. As these cards bring security, convenience and ease-of-use to millions of people worldwide, acceptance is observed vibrantly among various industrial sectors.
Smart Card Solutions - ApplicationsWe find this card being used widely in diverse applications in our day-to-day life. Extensive usage of Smart Card Solutions can be noticed in building access, shopping malls, restaurants, healthcare centres, colleges, telecommunications sector etc., Rising demand for this technology have provoked IT companies to offer a spectrum of smart card based services and solutions. These cards though looks like our credit card it does all three key functions such as credit, debit & personal information and works tremendously like a computer void of display screen and keyboard. Organizations are steadily migrating toward this technology due to the mobility and size and data carrying features. This remains a secure & convenient platform for computing individual's personal digital identity anywhere any time. These cards are tamper resistant and they use Protocol Data Units (APDU) to commune with host devices via cryptographic keys and PIN codes. Two general categories of smart cards are contact and contact less smart card. Adapt ME offers a plethora of Smart card solutions & Smart Card Printers for you to avail of in Dubai, UAE, Middle East, Abu Dhabi and Africa.
Contact Smart Card Solutions
A contact smart card has direct relationship to a contact plate that is conductive on the card surface. transmission of data, commands and takes place in this physical contact points. Along with the card reader Contact smart cards will have a contact area which encompasses several gold-plated contact pads of 1 cm square. When inserted into a reader, the chip makes contact with electrical connectors that can read information from the chip and write information back. A single card can be deployed for multiple applications and improvement to it can be made even after it has been issued to the end user. One can purchase a smart card by defining all his memory requirements, purpose in the present and future requirements.
Contactless Smart Card Solutions
The ever-increasing percentage of using smart cards in numerous applications has led to a series of technological developments. Contactless smart cards are a technological advancement which has gained momentum in ticketing and payment applications internationally. These chip uses RFID induction technology to communicate. Contactless cards do not have a battery, they instead use a built-in inductor to capture the incident radio-frequency interrogation signal. In contactless smart card there are two types. A contactless card needs closeness to a reader. The card and the reader have antennae communicated using radio frequencies. Other categories of cards are hybrid cards and dual-interface cards. A hybrid card is one that has two chips, one with a contact interface and the other with a contactless interface.
Smart Card Printers
The two chips are not interconnected. A dual-interface card has a single chip with both contact and contactless interfaces. With dual-interface cards, it is possible to access the same chip using either a contact or contactless interface with a very high level of security. The chips used in all of these cards come under two categories namely microcontroller chips and memory chips. A memory chip is like a small floppy disk with optional security. Memory chips are less expensive than microcontrollers but with an equivalent decrease in data management security. Cards that use memory chips depend on the security of the card reader for processing and are ideal for situations that require low or medium security.
